Italian Villa Raffle Raises $17,000 for Girls’ Education in Uganda

On Saturday 20th February 2010, the Joseph Rainer Education Foundation (JREF) concluded its raffle by announcing the lucky winners.  Intended to encourage people to become ‘founding friends’ of the charitable organization, the grand prize was a weeklong stay at an Italian villa jointly donated by a luxury European villa rental agency, Doorways Villa Vacations, and the Italian villa owner. Generous donations were received from all over the world.

The raffle draw held at Plot 75 Luthuli Avenue Bugolobi saw an American Lady, Sally Heimann  win a week long vacation at an Italian Villa, while other local supporters Jim & Julie Middleton won a dinner for two at Serena Hotel, while Isabelle DeMello of Moringa Oglivy won a month long membership at Maisha, Kampala Serena. Katie Bowser, another local winner, won dinner for two at The Lake Victoria Serena.

JREF continues to build on Joseph Rainer’s 30 years of quantifiable achievements: the schools that he built still stand; the students he believed in are now professionals.  While JREF is continuing Joseph Rainer’s legacy of providing scholarships for financially-needy scholars, its objectives also include enhancing teaching and learning through a partnership with the International School of Uganda, improving campus infrastructure and strengthening administrative, financial and governance systems.
